The morning advisory
10:00 AM
If a hurricane warning covers the island, your stay is refunded
The National Hurricane Center posts a full advisory every six hours: at 4 and 10, morning and evening, Central daylight time. From June through November we read every one.

What is the difference between a watch and a warning?
| What is issued | What it means | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Hurricane watch | Hurricane conditions are possible in the area. A watch usually comes about 48 hours before tropical storm force winds are expected. | You can move your dates at no charge. |
| Hurricane warning | Hurricane conditions are expected in the area. A warning usually comes about 36 hours ahead. | We refund your stay in full. |
| Tropical storm warning | Tropical storm conditions are expected in the area. | You can move your dates at no charge. |
| Evacuation order | Local officials tell people to leave the island. | The inn closes and every booking is refunded. |
The forecast
How do we keep you informed?
The policy is tied to the official watch and warning, so no one has to guess.
Season dates
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30.
Advisories every six hours
At 4 AM, 10 AM, 4 PM and 10 PM Central daylight time. When a coastal watch or warning is in effect, shorter updates come every three hours in between.
A message from us
If a watch is posted for Galveston, we email every guest booked that week the same day.
Your call, with time to make it
A watch gives about two days of notice. You never have to decide before the forecast does.
The island
Is Galveston a good idea in hurricane season?
Most summer and fall days on the island are ordinary beach days. The water is warm, the rates are lower after Labor Day, and the porch is at its best in October.
The Seawall and the grade raising were built for the other days. A forecast gives days of notice, and our policy is written so that a storm never costs you the room.
The policy covers your stay with us. It does not cover a flight, a cruise or a rental car, so travel insurance can still be worth having.
