How switching to Sideoats works
Changing agencies takes one review, one form and no gap in coverage. Here is each step, and how your information is handled along the way.
Form to sign
1
It names us as your agent. We line up the new policy's first day with the old policy's last day.
What are the steps?
Send us your declarations page
It is the first page or two of your policy. It lists your coverages, limits and deductibles.
We compare it line by line
You get your current policy and the options side by side, with every deductible written in dollars.
You choose
Keep what you have, change carriers, or change limits. There is no charge for the review.
We collect the sensitive details by phone
Driver's license numbers, birth dates and vehicle numbers are taken on a call or through a secure link. They never go through the website form or plain email.
You sign one form
It names Sideoats as your agent. We set the new policy to start the day the old one ends, so there is no day without coverage.
You get your documents
ID cards, the new declarations page and a one page summary arrive the same day the policy starts.
How is my information handled?
A quote needs details that should not sit in an inbox. This is how we keep them out of one.
The website form asks for four things
A ZIP code, your name, a phone number and an email. That is enough to call you back.
Sensitive numbers are taken by phone
Driver's license numbers, birth dates and policy numbers are collected on a call you are expecting, or through a secure link we send during that call.
We will not ask you to pay by gift card or wire
Premiums are paid to the insurance company by the methods on its own bill. If a caller using our name asks for anything else, hang up and call the office.
You can ask what we hold
Call and we will tell you what is in your file, who it was shared with, and why.
What can I move to Sideoats?
We are an independent agency, so your policy can be placed with the carrier that fits and checked against the others at renewal.
Home
Hail, wind, fire and theft, with the deductible worked out in dollars before you sign.
Auto
The Texas minimum is 30/60/25. We show you what the next step up covers.
Renters
Your landlord's policy covers the building. This one covers what is inside it.
Flood
Home policies do not cover flooding, and most flood policies take 30 days to start.
Business
General liability, commercial auto and property for shops, trades and offices.
Umbrella
Extra liability coverage that sits on top of your home and auto policies.
Switching agencies, answered
Will I have a gap in coverage if I switch?
No. We set the new policy to start on the same day the old one ends, and we confirm the old policy's cancellation in writing.
Do I have to wait for my renewal date?
No. You can change at any time. The old company refunds the unused part of what you paid, though some charge a small fee for cancelling early.
What do you need from me to quote?
Your current declarations page. It tells us more than a form could, and it lets us quote the same coverage so the comparison is fair.
Does it cost anything to have you review my policy?
No. The review is free whether you switch or stay.
Start with a review
Send four details and an agent calls back the same business day. Have your declarations page nearby and we will read it with you.
