How a first visit works
New clients are welcome, and most first visits are booked within the week. Here is what to expect and what to bring.

- Within the weekfor most first visits
- Forty minutesfor a puppy or kitten first visit
- Ten minutes earlyis the right time to arrive
What happens at a first visit?
Request a visit
Use the form or call. We ask for your pet's name, age and what the visit is for.
Send the records
Ask your last clinic to email your pet's records to us, or tell us the clinic name and we will request them with your permission.
Arrive ten minutes early
Cats come in a carrier and dogs on a leash. If your dog is nervous around other dogs, call from the car and we bring you in through the side door.
Meet the veterinarian
A first visit is forty minutes. We go nose to tail, and you ask everything on your list.
Leave with a plan
You get a written plan with what is due, when, and what each item costs.
What should I bring?
- Any records, vaccine certificates or adoption papers you have
- A list of food, treats and medication, with amounts
- A fresh stool sample for puppies and kittens
- Your questions, written down so none get forgotten
- A favorite treat, unless your pet is coming in for a stomach problem
Sick today? Skip the form and call (503) 555-0146 before 3 PM. We see new clients the same day too.
How do you handle my information?
A clinic holds names, addresses, phone numbers and medical records. We keep the website out of most of it, and we are careful with the rest.
The form asks for very little
Your name, a phone number, an email and why you are coming. Medical history is taken in the room or by phone.
Records go to you or where you send them
We release records to the owner on file, or to another clinic with your permission. A caller who is not on the account gets nothing.
Cards are taken at the desk
We never ask for a card number by email, by text or through the website form.
Reminders are your choice
Vaccine and visit reminders come by text or email, and one reply turns them off.

New clients, answered
How soon can a new client be seen?
Most first visits are booked within the week. If your pet is sick today, call before 3 PM and we see you today, new client or not.
Do I need my pet's old records?
They help, and a first visit can go ahead without them. With the records we avoid repeating vaccines and tests your pet already had.
How do I license my pet in Multnomah County?
The county licenses dogs and cats and asks for a current rabies certificate. We hand you the certificate at the visit, and you can apply online with the county.
How do I get my cat into the carrier?
Leave the carrier out for a few days with a towel and a few treats inside, so it stops being a signal. On the day, lower your cat in back end first through the top if your carrier opens that way.
Request a visit
Tell us who is coming and why, and the front desk calls back within two business hours to set a time.
Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 6 PM, Saturday 9 AM to 2 PM. After hours, call DoveLewis at (503) 228-7281.
